Be
as specific as you can about the type of work you do and would like to
do, as well as your desired career path.
For
this iteration of the portfolio, save the personal stuff for Facebook, keep it about the professional.
Include
a demo reel of your work so far.
This
should be a “Generalist” reel, showcasing your best work in all areas and
your process of working.
Include
in your demo reel and/or website, sections dedicated to your process –
how
did you arrive at the finished work, i.e.; show sketches, concept
drawings, wireframes, storyboards, animatics, composited layers, etc.,
leading up to the final product.
Place
your work in context.
Be
able to, and offer side-by-side comparisons with your work and work of a
similar nature being done in the industry currently, (“thinking
critically about 3D”).
Know
where you want to go.
Discuss
your Informational Interview and give three examples of businesses that
you would like to intern at/work for.
Be
well-prepared.
You
should be able to present your work, your case and yourself clearly,
intelligently and articulately (e.g., professionally) in about five
minutes.
Be
well rested, confident, enthusiastic, and well-groomed, (clean and
“business casual” dress), and treat it like a job interview.
Be
well-rehearsed.
Have
someone take notes for you, or record the session for review later.
