Assignment 2: Music/Sound
Working with Rhythm, Harmony, Dominance and Balance.
You are to create a 20 second advertising spot based on a piece of music.
The client is a department store chain, (we’ll call it “Bullseye”), that is launching its’ new ad campaign: “Take aim at your future with Bullseye”.
The advertising Art Director wants to use complimentary colors and a “hip-retro” style, (during the meeting he mentioned a “1970’s, cop-show/spy-movie” look), that uses only two dimensional shapes. We’ll assume that as long as the colors are complimentary, the color choices are open.
The campaign is aimed at young adults and will feature several different spots that showcase the excitement, suspense, comedy and romance of returning to campus.

From the “Feel” music category search, choose a 20 second piece of music to illustrate one spot in the series of Fall/Back-To-School broadcast spots.
- There are four milestone checkpoints in this project:
1. Music selection and style sheets. Due Day 01 of Week 02. 5 points.
For this you must bring your selected clip of music and style sheets for the spot.
These style sheets should include thumbnail storyboard frames showing the look of each section of the spot.
For a 20 second piece of music I would expect that you would have ten frames articulating the spot, with notes on each thumbnail indicating the time and movement.
You are to turn in:
Your music file
A pdf file of your style sheets.
2. Draft 1. Due Day 02 of Week 02. 2.5 points.
This should be your thumbnails fleshed out and placed in a composition in accordance with your style sheets.
Your music should be included and basic motion should be applied.
You are to turn in:
Your comp, rendered as:
NTSC DV Widescreen, (720X480, pixel aspect ratio 1.21, frame aspect ratio 1.82)
QuickTime, using DV/DVC Pro – NTSC, Best quality, progressive scan, 16X9.
3. Draft 2. Due Day 01 of Week 03.
2.5 points.
This should be nearly complete and reflect any changes noted during critique of Draft 1.
You are to turn in:
Your comp, rendered as:
NTSC DV Widescreen, (720X480, pixel aspect ratio 1.21, frame aspect ratio 1.82)
