GD1400 Computer Animation
Creating a 3D Environment with 3ds max R9
Due Date: 2nd class, week 08,beginning of class for group critique.
Instructions:

Using 3ds max 2009, model an environment (room) of your own design that tells a story about the occupant of the environment. Who is the occupant? How do they live? How do he or she maintain the space?

You should create this room as a possible digital set for your final project: compositing in After Effects.

Each student must use the following tools:

  1. Standard & Extended Primitives
  2. Parametric modifiers
  3. Lights & cameras
  4. Materials applied to objects

Possible appropriate content for your environment might include:

  1. Furniture
  2. Wall hangings
  3. Props or accessories such as food & drink containers, sporting items, video audio and computer equipment, etc.

Each student must present, using Microsoft's Powerpoint, your final solution (the 3d environment) and the research or steps you took to answer the following questions: Clarification Page

  1. Who is the occupant of this environment?
  2. What is the occupant like (habits, likes and dislikes, activities?
  3. What is the main activity that occurs in this environment?
  4. Where is this environment located geographically (climate)?

Each student will turn in a copy of your powerpoint presentation along with the 3ds max file into

DropOff(Z):\Steve Paul\Computer Apps\Finshed 3D Environment\(your name) folder.

Grading: will be based on how successful you were at demonstrating the following:
  1. Detailed and complex use of 3d forms.
  2. Lighting that shows, shade, shadows, shading in and around your 3D environment.
  3. Use of premade and or custom materials from the 3ds max material library.
  4. Good composition in your renderings via effective framing from within the camera shots.
  5. Quality of presentation.
This Assignment: will address the following course competencies:
  1. Demonstrate awareness of computer applications as they exist within students’ chosen area of
    concentration.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of multimedia computer capabilities and applications.
  3. Learn professional presentation skills
