After Effects and compositing

In small groups, (no more than four), create a short movie,
(30 seconds or less) that tells the story of your first (or second) quarter at AIM.

This can take the form of a mokumentary, a commercial, a VFX sequence, or a short animation.

It must include work done in Photoshop, 3DS Max, and After Effects.

It must have some audio --sound effects, music, narration, dialogue -- it can, but does not need to have them all.

By the end of class today, (class 1, week 9):
Fill out the form you’ll find linked here:  After Effects Teams
Turn in an electronic version (Word document) to the “After Effects Teams” folder on the Drop-Off Drive.

For 2nd class of Week 11:

Your team will present your movie and a Powerpoint (or similar) presentation on "The Making Of..." showing step-by-step how you put the whole thing together and who did what.

Your final movie should include:

  • Photoshop, 3DS Max material and video your team has shot and digitized.

  • Add some audio – Foley sound effects and music.

Your final movie should also include credits, (these can be added on to the overall length of the movie.

For example: 30 seconds of story, 10 seconds of credits = 40 seconds total length).

These credits should list, honestly, who did what in the making of the movie.

You will need to choose one person to be the Director.

That person will be responsible for everything.

The Director will have the final say on how things should look and sound, and will be the one to make sure that everyone is doing their job.

They will also need to take up one of the production jobs, (modeling, animating, sound, etc.)

Render your movie out as:

A 720 X 480 QuickTime movie with H.264 compression

When finished, place the final movie and Powerpoint file only in the “Finished After Effects Movies” folder on the Drop-Off Drive.

You will be graded on the following:
          • Your ability to work as an effective team member.
          • Your ability to find resources and problem solve .
          • Your ability follow guidelines and work within limits.
          • Your ability to demonstrate basic skills in After Effects.
This Assignment: will address the following course competencies:
Because this is a culmination of all skill sets taught this quarter all course competencies are addressed in this large assignment.
