Organic Character
Your goal in this assignment is to work with organic shapes.
To get an idea of what I'm hoping to prepare you for, check out this page from Intermediate Modeling:
The Character Assignment from Intermediate 3D Modeling
You can create any type of organic creature or object, plant or animal, but I would strongly recommend making a biped of some sort.
The character MUST be all organic. NO MECHANICAL SHAPES.
That means the curves must simulate skin over muscle, bones, fat and internal organs.
No hard, geometric angles.
The character should be simple. You should realistically be able to finish it in two weeks.
If you want to go farther with this, as with the gadget/toy, you can add to it for the final project.
This will be due 2ND CLASS, WEEK 11, AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS.
You will need to present your work as you did for the gadget/toy:
For final delivery you will need:
- A single document (like a Power Point) or self-contained interactive website* describing your process of construction.
- *If you create a website using Dreamweaver, for instance, you will need to place all of your pages and images in a single folder with links to that folder.
- In this document you should show us the following (through text and images) –
- Your reference images (5 points)
- How you began (5 points)
- At least four in-progress shots or screen grabs (10 points)
- Six renders (60 points – 10 points each)
- Final Wire frame
- Final with gray matte material and NO SMOOTHING
- Your choice of angle
- Final with gray matte material (or ambient occlusion render) and SMOOTHING ON.
- Same angle as #2.
- Same as #3
- Close-up
- Same as #3
- Full shot
- Your choice of detail
All final renders should be HD size: 1920X1080
- At least discoveries or solutions to problems found while working on this project (9 points)
- This document (or website, etc.) should be included in a folder labeled:
- “Lastname_Firstname_Organic” (3 points)
- And it should include your final Max project file, capable of being opened on the schools’ machines. (6 points)
- Extra Credit points can include:
- Clear, appropriate texturing and lighting (up to 10 points)
- A turn around animation of 360 frames, completing one full circle (up to 5 points)
- A clear, articulate and informative professional volunteered presentation (up to 10 points)
