CA2429 Introduction to 3-D Modeling
Study in 3D industrial Forms & Polygon modeling: A Computer Mouse- File: Mouse_01.max
Due Date: 2nd class, week 05 , beginning of class for group critique.

Instructions:
Create a computer mouse of your choice using the Editable Poly modeling method. Model your own design or an existing design.
Requirements::

You must include in your model a successful demonstration of the following:

  1. Create a two or three button mouse (minimum).
  2. A mouse middle wheel button.
  3. A mouse cord.
  4. A finished mouse bottom.
  5. Model buttons, channels, corners, and any other surface formations.
  6. High level of detail in the 3D model.
  7. A smooth mouse shell form.
  8. Symmetry modifier (unless you create an asymmetrical mouse).

You should be using the following tools and methods:

  • Transforming vertices, edges, and polygons
  • Use of the cut tool
  • Chamfer edges
  • Welding of vertices
  • Slice plane
  • Extruding faces

You are required to present your work in a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation containing the following requirements:

  1. A minimum of four (4) finished lit & shaded 24 bit color renderings at least 640x480.
  2. A minimum of four (4) finished wire frame 24 bit color renderings or view port grabs at least 640x480.
  3. Wire frames renderings, wire frame screen grabs, or grabbed view ports of your final design solution that match the perspective views.
  4. At least eight (8) rendered (renderings or screen grabs) of in progress work.
  5. One page (of your own design/layout) listing project title, your name, modeling methods with visual examples, and any other relative information.
  6. One labeled and or exploded rendering/view (shaded) with text explanations of parts & pieces that were required to be included in the assignment.*
  7. One screen showing with and without any final smoothing from such modifiers and Turbo smooth or Smooth.**

*Optional.

**Optional. Only required if you use specified modifiers or processes.

Grading: will be based on how successful you were at demonstrating the following:
  • Detailed control of the 3D form.
  • Intentional and appropriate form changes in and around the indenting channels (grooves).
  • Complexity of the computer mouse form.

Grading Rubric to follow soon.
